By investing in offshore wind for New York, we’re investing in New Yorkers. We’re creating jobs for skilled union workers across the state – along with training opportunities for underrepresented groups, to grow the clean energy workforce of tomorrow. We put a special focus on opportunities for women, people of color, and people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Where are we already investing in people?
- Sunrise Wind will be covered by Ørsted’s nationwide agreement with North America’s Building Trades Unions to use only union-affiliated labor
- The project will be built under Project Labor Agreements, which will ensure that all workers are paid prevailing wages – maximizing local benefits to New Yorkers and their communities
- We’re helping upgrade the Port of Coeymans to enable offshore wind component construction and bring union career opportunities to upstate workers
Supply chain
Building New York’s offshore wind industry means more than just building offshore wind farms. It means building a whole supply chain – one that includes local suppliers in areas ranging from construction and manufacturing to transport and shipping and beyond. In short, it’s a supply chain that spans the state.
What’s in the supply chain so far?
- We’ve entered into contracts worth $86 million with construction and steel manufacturing firms in Upstate New York to produce advanced foundation components for offshore wind turbines
- Steel components that will be used in offshore wind turbine foundations will be manufactured in Wellsville, Allegany County, NY
- A new Operations and Maintenance hub will make Suffolk County an epicenter for training up the East Coast’s growing offshore wind talent pool
- Port Jefferson will also be home to the first ever American-flagged Jones Act-qualified Service Operations Vessel, which is now under construction
- The Research Way Operations and Maintenance facility in East Setauket in the Town of Brookhaven will be home to Sunrise Wind and South Fork Wind’s permanent staff, filling a wide range of roles

Sunrise Wind is built on partnership. Partnership between the world’s leading offshore wind developer, Ørsted, and national energy experts, Eversource. And partnership with the unions, schools, and community groups that are essential to delivering one of the state’s biggest infrastructure projects.
Who are we partnering with?
- Sunrise Wind is included in Ørsted’s national Offshore Wind Agreement with North America’s Building Trades Unions to ensure the jobs we're creating deliver on the promise of high-quality, family sustaining union careers for all our offshore wind construction projects – meaning New Yorkers can reap the benefits of clean energy from day one
- We’re creating a National Offshore Wind Training Center in Suffolk County, a new model of partnership between industry, labor and academia, in collaboration with the Long Island Federation of Labor, the Nassau & Suffolk Building and Construction, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Utility Workers Union of America, and Suffolk Community College to prepare the next generation of New Yorkers for jobs in offshore wind as the industry continues to grow
- We’ve invested $10 million to found the National Offshore Wind Training Center in Brentwood, Long Island, spearheaded by local unions, Minority Millennials and Suffolk Community College to train and support workers preparing for careers in the clean energy industry
- We’ve committed part of our $1 million Upper Hudson Workforce Development Fund to the Multi-Craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program (M.A.P.P.), to recruit and train low-income and workers of color for unionized construction apprenticeships, providing a path to family-sustaining careers while bringing more diversity to the building trades
- We’ve partnered with Stony Brook University, contributing $5 million to promote innovative energy research, education, and technology deployment
